After the AI Workshop for Teachers at Edakawa Elementary School:Publishing Custom Instructions to Support Children’s AI Use

Yesterday (2025/3/10), I had the pleasure of leading an AI workshop for teachers at Edagawa Elementary School in Hitachinaka City.

It was impressive to see how the educators, many of whom were logging into ChatGPT for the very first time, quickly adapted and started exploring creative and meaningful ways to use AI. They naturally compared outputs with colleagues, experimented with different prompts, and eagerly discussed practical classroom applications—such as guiding students to write book reports with the assistance of ChatGPT. Witnessing their proactive engagement and insightful discoveries was both exciting and inspiring.

Through this experience, it became clear that elementary and middle school students are already beginning to explore and utilize AI tools like ChatGPT. Inspired by these insights, our research group has developed and published customizable instructions designed specifically to help children safely and effectively interact with AI.

These guidelines serve as a flexible template, easily adaptable to suit each school’s unique context and classroom needs. We hope educators and parents alike will use these materials to support children’s autonomous and creative growth through responsible AI usage.

Feel free to explore and adapt these guidelines for your educational needs, and please don’t hesitate to share your thoughts and feedback!
